Bio
I am Madelyn Johnson, a clinical psychology doctoral student at the University at Albany, SUNY! Previously, I worked in the psychiatry department at the University of California, San Francisco, where I honed my research interests and skills in the field of eating disorders. Broadly, my interests include cultural competence in treating and assessing eating disorders, food insecurity, and the impact of social determinants of health on treatment outcomes. In my free time, I enjoy spending time outside with my rescue dog, Rory, and reading fiction!Project ideas
Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.
Scoping Review of Culturally Competent Interventions to Treat Adolescent Anorexia Nervosa
Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) for scoping reviews guidelines, we would examine the literature on culturally competent interventions for adolescents with anorexia nervosa. Through our search we would present the status of the literature, gaps in the literature, and future directions for this line of research.
Teaching experience
I've mentored students in independent research projects that focused on various topics in psychology. I developed a curriculum and trained a group of college educated research assistants on several psychological interviews. I lectured on the history, psychometrics, and scoring of each instrument followed by training the group to conduct each assessment. I've also lead journal clubs to discuss current, cutting edge research in the field.Credentials
