Alongside these courses, the program also offers comprehensive college advising and assistance with college essay preparation to support all participating students. Each year, a total of 28 students from different areas across Los Angeles County are carefully chosen to attend this program.

In addition to laboratory work, the Summer Experience program offers various other activities to enhance the overall learning experience. Students have the opportunity to learn data analysis techniques, which are crucial in modern scientific research. They also attend a resume-building session to develop their professional skills and gain insight into the academic and career opportunities in the field of biomedical research. At the conclusion of the program, participants showcase their research findings in a final presentation. This allows them to effectively communicate their scientific discoveries, share their insights, and receive feedback from their peers and mentors. To support their participation in the program, students receive a stipend of $1,000. This stipend helps cover expenses and acknowledges the dedication and effort students put into their research during the Summer Experience. It is important to note that students applying to the Summer Experience program must be at least 17 years old before the program begins. This age requirement ensures that students are prepared for the rigors and responsibilities associated with working in a professional research environment. The ORCA experience is the only early college of its kind in the country, designed around the best of what we know about teaching and learning. The program utilizes the study of the ocean as inspiration for our approaches to learning, building on the power of engaging in active research in the local environment and across disciplines. The innovative early college design allows similar-age students to work in a cohort and with the same talented college faculty.

"The Science Research Mentoring Program (SRMP) at the American Museum of Natural History is an opportunity for New York City high school students to conduct one year (August–June) of scientific research with Museum scientists. In SRMP, high school students get paid to learn how to conduct research. Students work with peers and scientist mentors twice a week throughout the school year for a total of four hours a week on a project that has never been done before. Every research project is different.SRMP students learn a wide range of new skills, like working with DNA in the lab, analyzing data from space based telescopes, reading scientific articles, and learning to code and analyze data in Python, R, and other programming languages. In the current 2023-2024 academic year, you must be in the 10th or 11th Grade and passing your classes for the last three or more semesters. Attend one of the high schools or partner programs"

Intended for rising high school seniors seriously considering engineering as their career choice, this residential program is designed to give in-depth experiences in engineering majors. Each day students will learn about a significant and spend time with an engineering faculty member, a graduate student, and an undergraduate student engaged in a short lecture, demonstrations, hands-on activities, team-based problem-solving, and tours.

The program emphasizes team collaboration and close work with experienced game designers and developers from NYU Steinhardt’s Consortium for Research and Evaluation of Advanced Technologies in Education (CREATE). Through a mix of lectures, collaborative small-group activities, and individual projects, students gain valuable coding skills"
