A Comparative Study of Urban Design Choices Across European Cities
Started June 6, 2024
Abstract or project description
This research project will analyze the urban planning and design choices some cities have undertaken in recent years and how those choices have improved quality of life and improved the cities which have undertaken these urban planning choices. This research project looks at how urban planning incentives in select cities have spurred more livable communities, better public transit, a mutli-modal lifestyle, and better community cohesion and pedestrian safety. This study compares these urban design choices and analyzes specific urban design and planning choices that can be implemented in other cities around the world to achieve similar positive results in city improvement as the ones in this study.
Objective: To identify the best practices of urban design choices across three major global cities, such as New York, Barcelona, and Paris that could be implemented globally. The research will explore how urban design has improved the quality of life and created more inclusive communities with multi-modal transit systems and by redefining public spaces through urban planning concepts such as tactical urbanism.
Research Methodology: The research methodology will be primarily literature reviews, as well as primary pictorial data collection.
