The Complexity of Sustainability and the Future of Natural Fibers
Started Apr. 29, 2024
Abstract or project description
Vera is researching sustainability and fibers in the clothing industry. She is focusing on the complexity of natural fibers, the pros and cons of particular fibers, and the complexity of sustainability. All fibers (both natural and synthetic) come with positive and negative features. Further, just because a fiber is natural, does not necessarily mean it is sustainable. There is also a lot of greenwashing in this area. Vera is particularly interested in MMCFs, and the future of innovative cellulose fibers as an alternative to other natural fibers that are particularly land and water intensive, such as cotton. As the projects evolve, she will narrow her argument and identify case studies.
