Started July 17, 2024

Abstract or project description

This article examines the effect of the 2008 market crash on banking regulations. The 2008 market crash was one of the worst periods of economic downturn in modern history which exposed deep flaws in banking regulation that led to widespread economic turmoil. The paper explores the impact of the 2008 market crash on financial regulations, by examining how regulatory reforms were put in place to protect investors and stabilize the market. By analyzing pre market regulations and regulatory framework and the subsequent changes implemented in the aftermath there is a clear shift highlighted by the paper towards more stringent regulations such as increased governmental oversight, increased banking transparency and the introduction of new regulatory bodies which were set in place to protect consumers. Some of these regulations were The Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act and Basal Acts. These acts and others passed by policymakers underscores the USA government's efforts to address systemic risks and prevent any more financial crises.
