How will the NJ Bill A3123 impact students' health and academic performance?

Abstract or project description

This project will research the potential outcomes of NJ Bill A3123, which will gradually increase eligibility for free meals in schools until all students receive free meals in Jersey. New Jersey is among 26 other states, including DC, with similar bills in progress. Currently going through the stages of coming into the process, it is important to know how this bill will impact students' health and academic performance. The research used will include data from states with a similar program already, California, New Mexico, Colorado, Minnesota, Michigan, Vermont, Massachusettes, and Maine; research on the importance of lunch in a student's life; surveys regarding NJ Bill A3123 in my school district about nutritional benefits and stigma surrounding receiving free meals; interviews with the bill sponsors; and opposition in the NJ Assembly.
