Phytoplankton Toxins’ Applications in Medicine
Started May 30, 2023
Abstract or project description
As more biomedical research is done with more focus on different uses of phytoplankton, it is impressive that the toxin of some phytoplankton can actually be used as medicine in order to treat many diseases. My literature review will focus on three different phytoplankton groups (Cyanobacteria, dinoflagellate, diatom), and how their chemical products and toxic products can be helpful in treating medical conditions. At the same time, I will describe the process of toxin production and its significance and contributions to the organisms. At the end, I will also discuss how humans can use this toxin efficiently and future directions of the research.
