What are the genetic contributions of the SNCA gene to familial Parkinson’s disease?
Started Jan. 29, 2024
Abstract or project description
Familial Parkinson’s Disease is characterized by inheritance within a family. It can be caused by mutations in a variety of genes, especially in the SNCA gene. Within the SNCA gene, there are many different loci that can cause familial PD such as the A53T, A30P, E46K, and H50Q loci. It is already well-known how mutations in certain loci of the SNCA gene produce sporadic PD but has not been fully discovered regarding familial PD. This review paper will aim to combine knowledge of these different loci and the mutations making them cause familial PD. It will include looking at other resources about familial PD, these specific loci, and what the mutations do to change them. This could help deepen our understanding of familial PD’s pathogenesis.
