Abstract or project description

Shiv’s project will revolve around the vibrations of a drum belonging to the Indian musical family, the Mridangam. It is noted that these drums have harmonic overtones which is unusual for percussion instruments. The presence of an applied mass on the membrane to change its density distribution. Shiv’s project will expand on a previous study that explores the transient response of the membrane under different excitations. Shiv will be recreating the experiment using a vibrometer to measure vibrations of the left membrane surface as well as using different models/sizes of the instrument to plot the differences.
