How can someone's genetic makeup be used in order to identify their need for treatment for Long QT Syndrome using personalized medicine?

Started Jan. 3, 2024

Abstract or project description

Congenital Long QT Syndrome is a genetically inherited condition that affects the electrical system of the heart, causing heart arrythmia. There are treatments available, but identifying which patients may benefit from treatment is a difficult task. Using a combination of a patient's genetic makeup and clinical data (such as symptoms, family history, and EKG findings), personalized medicine can be used to target those who need treatment. Using the available literature, it is essential to provide a review of the state of personalized medicine in regards to congenital Long QT Syndrome. We hope that this review can raise awareness to how personalized medicine can be beneficial and influential in the field of cardiology.
