How can CRISPR-CAS9/other gene-editing technologies be used to potentially treat Alzheimer's disease?

Started May 14, 2024

Abstract or project description

My project is a comic book featuring how gene-editing technologies and biotechnology can be used to find a possible cure for patients with Alzheimer's disease. Currently, according to the World Health Organization, 70% of dementia cases world wide have been confirmed to be Alzheimer's, yet there is still no cure to this disease and the overall understanding of this disease is quite limited. My comic will address the current research on Alzheimer's disease (AD) and how it affects patients' brains, which will be featured in the first two chapters of my comic. My third chapter will be talking about the genetics of AD and how it is inherited overall, along with discussing the possible mutations that cause AD. Finally, my fourth chapter will address gene editing technologies and their applications in AD and how they've helped to cure other genetically inherited diseases like sickle cell.
