Microplastics causes, effects, and solutions

Abstract or project description

This project will be to create a review article that focuses on microplastics.

Microplastics have been found in remote environments, including the deepest depths of the Mariana Trench, and the peaks of high mountain ranges worldwide. However, the main locations of microplastic pollution are bodies of water, such as oceans, and the organisms residing in these environments consume the microplastics, a detrimental factor to their health. Not only are microplastics hazardous to the health of marine life but to that of humans who consume these organisms as well.

This article will cover several existing and recent solutions, including nano-coils, enzymes, and floating boom systems, that have been refined to mitigate the effects of microplastics on the environment.
