How does NBA player performance change before/after achilles injuries

Abstract or project description
This project seeks to analyze player performance before and after an achilles injury as a function of the decade they got hurt in and the player’s age. We hypothesize that due to medical advancements in sports medicine, player performance post achilles injury has improved over time not only relative to player performance pre-injury, but also with respect to a player’s peers in their age group.
To complete this project, we will collect data (mostly aggregated and per game statistics) for NBA players that have suffered achilles injuries along with data for NBA players in general by age bracket. Overall, we will compare players to others who have suffered achilles injuries, but also those who have not in order to establish how player performance post achilles injury has trended over time. We will also look at specific medical advancements and hypothesize their impact on overall recovery timelines and player performance following an achilles injury.
