Project Portfolio

What are the potential applications of gene editing and how can we implement it in an equitable and ethical way?

Started May 28, 2024

Abstract or project description

My project will look at two aspects of gene editing. The first is using gene therapy to cure diseases such as hemophilia and sickle cell disease. I will explore the costs and benefits of novel gene therapy and compare it to already existing treatments for these diseases. Additionally, I will explore ways to decrease the costs and allow for gene therapies to be more accessible. The second section of my project will focus on using gene editing for human enhancement. I will explore the ethical implications of being able to choose a child's hair color, height, and more, with the ultimate goal of distinguishing what is an acceptable use of gene editing and what constitutes as eugenics.
