How do specific mutations in the APC gene influence the progression and treatment response of metastatic colorectal cancer, considering the genomic concordance between primary and metastatic lesions?

Started July 19, 2024

Abstract or project description

There were more than 1.9 million cases in colon cancer in 2022, and more than 53,000 people will die of colon cancer in America this year. APC (Adenomatous Polyposis Coli) is a tumor suppressor gene that plays a key role in the WNT signaling pathway, a pathway that drives cell differentiation and proliferation. When this gene is mutated, there is an accumulation in Beta-catenin, which leads to leads to uncontrolled cell division and the formation of benign tumors. Building on the genomic consistency of metastatic and primary tumors, this paper intends to explore how APC mutations contribute to the behavior of metastatic colorectal cancer and their impact on treatment efficacy.
