The effect of sleep on endocrine regulation of bone growth.

Abstract or project description
Sleeping deeper can lead to improved cognition, immune system function, memory, hormone health, and muscle repair rate, which all contribute to better health, happiness, and life satisfaction. More interestingly though, deeper sleep is correlated with increased height in children and adolescents.
Hypothesis 1
During deep sleep, the pituitary gland releases growth hormone into the body. Growth hormone stimulates IGF-1 in the liver. Together, they stimulate bone cells such as osteoblasts and chondrocytes, promoting their proliferation and differentiation which causes your bones to grow longer and thicker.
Hypothesis 2
During deep sleep, hormonal balance is restored and regulated. Having the right balance of hormones is crucial to an efficient metabolic system, which allows the body to effectively utilize energy. The effective energy system provides the necessary energy for bone and tissue growth and recovery, leading to longer and thicker bones.
Hypothesis 3
During deep sleep, the body undergoes restorative processes that improve digestion and nutrient absorption and utilization. Enhanced nutrient absorption and utilization may lead to better bone mineralization, which may lead to increased bone length and thickness.
