How does Weight Stigma in Health care influence the health choices patients make?
Started Mar. 22, 2024
Abstract or project description
I am conducting an independent study examining the relationship between weight stigma in healthcare and how it impacts an individuals health habits. Specifically, I used the Drive for Thinness Scale and the (SEAM) Gym Avoidance Sub-scale as my measures. My method of research was a quantitative, anonymous survey with questions from the Gym Avoidance and Drive for Thinness sub-scales. Once I collected 47 responses, I then cleaned the data for analyzation and ran a simple linear regression for Weight Stigma and Gym Avoidance and Weight Stigma and Drive for Thinness. The results showed a significant relationship between Weight Stigma and Gym Avoidance, however, no significant relationship was found between Weight Stigma and Drive for Thinness. Once I collected my data and analyzed I wrote up an APA Research Paper and also presented my study at the Rising Scholars Symposium.
