Abstract or project description

Reading is one of the most ancient methods of acquisition of knowledge, dating back to 3,000 BCE. It involves decoding letters and symbols by the brain which is further translated to speech and writing. As a result, reading is a very crucial aspect of learning. Reading requires cognition and phonological skills to grasp and further apply the knowledge attained fully. Previous studies suggest that curiosity and motivation are integral contributors to learning. Epistemic curiosity towards a particular subject elicits intrinsic motivation to further explore the topic under study. Therefore, a curiosity-driven approach to education could initiate life-long learning. This review aims to understand the science behind brain functions while reading and its implications on, learning, and memory. Additionally, this review is purposed to suggest the best learning methodologies that can be used in current educational systems to enhance the learning experience.
