Accessible and Technological Treatment for Amblyopia

Started July 10, 2023

Abstract or project description

Amblyopia happens by poor vision of one eye or rarely two eyes which may affect the development of children’s vision. The vision get worse if treatment is not started early. The treatment methods have not yet developed sufficiently when we examine them. But, first, we need to understand the neurological causes of this so that we can talk about treatment methods. Amblyopia is associated with some developmental problems in the brain, and especially, visual cortex. Previous research generally focus on V1 which is known as primary visual cortex.

These treatments involves disabling the other eye and forcing the lazy eye to function. It is necessary for the lazy eye to work with technological or physical games containing different colors and requirements for attention after the non-lazy eye has been closed. Thus, the laziness of the eye begins to decrease and approaches the vision of the other eye. The program Vivid Vision has been developed recently to cover all of these elements. It is considered a good cure for lazy eye to use licensed games where VR glasses are placed and will work the eye.

Even though it seems like a perfect treatment, it does come with some problems, and the biggest one is the cost.
