Are there structural and functional differences that arise during development that affect the mental health experience of gender identity?
Started July 1, 2024
Abstract or project description
This review paper will investigate how structural and functional differences during brain development might contribute to the mental health experiences associated with gender identity. Sexual dimorphism describes the structural differences in brain structure and function between cis-gender identities. However further investigation is required to capture a broader range of gender identities. Alongside a more inclusive examination lies the goal of identifying whether structural and functional differences arise from biological, environmental factors, or some characteristic blend of both. The review seeks to understand how these factors may relate to psychological and behavioral differences, specifically in relation to challenges with mental health.
