To what degree have US government regulations on bank runs changed since 1850, and how successful/effective have they been in offsetting and controlling bank runs in the US? What solutions can we bring about to improve on these regulations?

Abstract or project description

I plan to investigate how various regulations and deregulation have affected the chance of a bank failing. By looking at the progression of US government regulation and deregulation in the banking sector, I plan to find data points that represent the number of bank runs and money lost in bank runs against the different kinds of regulation that were present at the time. These data points will help me to answer the question of how effective US regulations have been in preventing and controlling bank runs. By looking through the progression of regulation and deregulation, I hope to find a trend that helps to pinpoint which regulations are the most effective or at least be able to provide better solutions for offsetting bank runs.
