How nanoscience benefits the process of water purification

Abstract or project description

Innovative technology has the potential to solve pressing environmental issues like water scarcity. Specifically, developments in nanotechnology have emerged as promising ways to achieve fresh water. Such novel water treatment devices use nanoscopic materials such as carbon nanotubes, alumni fibers, and zeolites. Some materials on the nanoscale can detect contaminants while others can purify them. Nanotechnological approaches have promising performance and implications for energy efficiency and sustainability. This paper will explain the opportunities for nanotechnology to improve water purification with examples of current technology and its methods and efforts. It will inform and motivate a broad audience towards nanotechnology for sustainable use of valuable resources.
