How does corporal punishment influence behavioral outcomes in adolescents?

Started May 2, 2024

Abstract or project description

Corporal punishment is a form of discipline that has been defined as bodily punishment of any kind and spanking is considered one of its forms (Friedman & Schonberg, 1996). Studying corporal punishment is crucial because it has the potential to help improve parenting practices and ensure that people are aware of the negative effects of enforcing corporal punishment on children. One of the many potential negative effects of corporal punishment is poor behavioral outcomes in adolescence, however, there is more research needed on this topic. In this paper, I will explore how corporal punishment may influence behavioral outcomes in adolescents. I will do this by conducting a literature review, looking specifically for papers about corporal punishment as well as adolescent aggressive and antisocial behavior. I hypothesize that children exposed to corporal punishment would have higher tendencies to be more aggressive and antisocial as they grow up. A potential implication of this study is recommendations for better parental practices, and drawing a light to this issue could lead to more mental health services for abused kids as they grow up.

Abstract or project description

The brain is incredible and complex and the source of much scientific research around the world. In this pod, you’ll focus on how our brains allow us to take unassuming sound waves and enable us to enjoy music, learn a new language, or recognize danger. Through this fascinating process, students will learn about the research process, the brain regions, how the brain regions cooperate to interpret sensory information, and how those individual actions culminate into the actions we take every day but may take for granted.
