Started Aug. 26, 2024
Abstract or project description
This student is conducting a research project that investigates the sensory preferences of neurotypical youth aged 13-18 compared to those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The study aims to identify distinct sensory sensitivities and preferences in both groups, exploring how these differences may influence their daily experiences and interactions. By examining various sensory modalities—such as visual, auditory, tactile, and olfactory—this research seeks to understand the unique challenges faced by youth with ASD in navigating their environments. The project will utilize surveys and observational methods to gather data from participants, allowing for a comprehensive analysis of sensory preferences. Ultimately, the findings aim to inform educators and caregivers about the importance of sensory-friendly practices, promoting inclusivity and enhancing the overall well-being of all youth.
