The Positive & Negative Effects of Media on Child Development

Abstract or project description

This paper seeks to study the relationship between media and developing children in the aspects of language development, learning, externalizing behavior, socialization, and other learning and nonearning activities. The review will compile existing research and draw generalizations found in the studies. Many significant correlations are found between the time spent on screens and the general patterns found in behavior, especially helpful and prosocial behavior. A common misconception held by many people is that all media produces a negative effect, but much of the research supports that the effect produced is effected by the actual content. Overall, the paper investigates the general effects of media in the form of television and video games on child development.
