About

Hi! I'm Boston Richardson, and my project focuses on developing a knee brace specifically designed to treat patellar tendonitis in volleyball players. Having played competitive volleyball for most of my life, I've seen the impact of tendonitis up close, which inspired me to pursue this project. Once it is completed, I plan to submit my research paper to the Curieux Academic Journal and present my findings to my high school.

Abstract or project description

Boston will be designing a custom knee brace that is specialized for patellar tendonitis in volleyball players. She specifically wants to enhance preexisting knee padding on the design so that it protects the patellar tendon from ground reaction forces generated during volleyball, but does not reduce the player's range of motion. She will add outer protective padding, that will act as a knee pad, and an advanced adjustment system to protect the knee and produce stability during playing. She will generate a rapid prototype using a BOA lacing system and other household items. She will assess her designs function using a mix of experimental and theoretical measures.
