About

Hello, my name is Apurba Barua and my Polygence project is on unfair trials. I chose to work on this project because of my passion for justice. This is able to better society, and as a whole make sure a person gets the justice they deserve. After my project is complete, I would like to be able to inspire other Law Firms in order to push for justice they strive for as well, then the people treated so unfairly will get the fair treatment they deserve.

Why are Juvenile Cases held at such low regard compared to regular adult-like cases?

Started Aug. 27, 2024

Abstract or project description

Cases like Adnan Syed, Duke University Lacrosse Team and the Kimberly Long case reveal the injustices of the Justice System. The Justice System doesn’t take Juvenile Cases as seriously as they would a regular case. This disregard for the Juvenile Court System creates unjust outcomes for both the juvenile and society. In the past 20-30 years many cases have shown the unjust policies regarding Juvenile Cases and the unconstitutional ways they are being handled. Why are Juvenile Cases held at such low regard compared to regular adult-like cases? This project relies on three types of sources; specifically, primary sources such as interviews and personal statements. This paper will also rely on legal scholarships including works by S.A Thomas, C Stich, J.S. Henry and others. Finally, the paper will also rely on the National Registration of Exonerations for the years 1990 until present day. Based on these primary and secondary sources, the research paper will argue that society needs to take more actions towards Juvenile Cases to contain justice and not wrongfully convict more people.
