Neurodegenerative Pathways in Multiple Systems Atrophy: Examining the Role of Alpha Synuclein in MSA

Started May 31, 2024

Abstract or project description

Aneesh will be writing a review paper focused on several key neurodegenerative pathways that have been implicated in multiple systems atrophy. After briefly contextualizing the scope of MSA (across the US and internationally), he will examine oxidative stress, blood brain barrier permeability, and neuroinflammation. It is well understood that alpha synuclein plays a central role in the mediation and downstream progression of MSA; Aneesh will examine the role of this protein, through the lenses of the aforementioned pathways, to understand its role in neurodegradation. The paper will conclude with a brief review of clinical trials and prospective therapeutics to aid in the treatment and prevention of MSA.
