Abstract or project description
Ballet is one of the most popular dance styles worldwide. This method of expression and theater, originating in the 15th century, persists as a beloved modern art form, capturing the attention of many. Dance companies and studios exist widely across the nation, providing opportunities for those who wish to learn ballet. Often masked by its elegance, ballet is a demanding and rigorous sport, requiring extreme dedication and many hours of training to excel at its highest level. This places dancers, young and old, at a high risk for injury.
In this "Dancer's Handbook," we aim to educate readers and have outlined the ten most common dance injuries faced by ballet dancers and provided information on the mechanism, risk factors, conservative therapies to try at home, and recommendations on when to seek medical care. Additionally, this "Dancer's Handbook" serves a second purpose as a journaling opportunity for young dancers as they set goals, unlock their creative side, and, very importantly, helps promote wellness.
