Economic burden of OCD in the United States: Evidence to inform cost-effective healthcare models across the lifespan

Started May 14, 2024

Abstract or project description

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is an underrepresented and underdressed mental health disorder that is causing a substantial economic burden to individuals and to the U.S. healthcare system. In particular, individuals with OCD face challenges accessing evidence-based, cost-effective treatments and experience high rates of absenteeism at school and work. OCD is also associated with increased healthcare utilization and healthcare spending. This review paper will summarize the current literature on key drivers of increased spending for individuals with OCD and healthcare companies, as well as outline cost-effective treatment solutions.
