What are some issues on implementation and viability regarding legislative actions taken to address domestic violence, and what recommendations should be made to further the work of Extreme Risk Protection Orders?

Abstract or project description

This project will highlight current and past legislation that has aimed to address domestic violence. I will research past initiatives that have been taken to address domestic violence at both a state and national level, and then look into current initiatives, including the recent movement of Emergency Restraining Orders. After gaining a better understanding of these initiatives, I will look into expert policy perspectives on what our nation should do to balance both constitutionality and the wellbeing of our citizens. Moreover, I will address perspectives from both sides, arguing over individual rights to own guns as well as the national increase in domestic violence. Finally, I will consolidate the information I have gathered into a research paper that details former legislation and looks at individual state actions taken to address domestic violence. I will also present solutions/recommendations that aim to address current constitutional concerns about government interference with the ownership of weaponry after a domestic violence conviction.
