Summary
As globalization continues to bridge cultures, understanding how love is understood and experienced across different cultures becomes increasingly important. This review discusses differences in the experience of love, such as passion, commitment, and intimacy, in individualistic and collectivistic cultures. It also discusses cultural differences in motivations for marriage and forms of close relationships (e.g., polyamory). This can provide insights into cross-cultural communication, and relationship dynamics, and ultimately contribute to promoting cultural empathy and understanding in an interconnected world. This review highlights that the experience of love is not universal. Therefore, I posit that researchers should consider culture when studying different components of love and close relationships
