Summary
Genetic brain disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and Phenylketonuria are caused by mutations in genes. Gene mutations are changes of the DNA sequence and they are either caused by environmental factors or are inherited. People with these sorts of brain disorders are unable to produce enough proteins causing changes in brain development and how they work. One of the most prevalent brain disorders is Autism. The autism spectrum disorder refers to challenges that deal with social skills, unusual behavior, and speech problems. In the United States today, one in thirty-six children have autism and it has increased by 312% since the year 2000. Genes that are associated with autism when mutated include ARID1B, ASH1L, and CHD2, just to name a few. This scientific paper will provide a deeper understanding about genetic mutations in various genes and how they are affected by autism. It will dive deep into specific genes and how mutations individually affect them. It will also explain what medical professionals have done and try to help people with this disorder.
