Master the fundamentals of investing in the stock market to create your own portfolio of stocks and assets. This pod is designed to empower you with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to navigate the financial markets and to take control of your own financial future. Discover the art of stock analysis, portfolio diversification, options trading, and risk management strategies that will help you make informed investment decisions and minimize potential losses. Through pod exercises, you'll have the opportunity to apply your newfound knowledge and hone your investment skills in a safe and supportive environment. The pod will go one step further and even incorporate group discussions centered around market trends and philosophies.

Week by week curriculum

Week 1

Stock Market Fundamentals: Understand the basic concepts around stocks and the stock market. In this initial session, we will discuss the history of the stock market, establish what a stock is, and what the market represents. We will cover how to invest and how that process has changed dramatically in the past 15 years.

Week 2

Understanding basic ratios and valuation tools: Cover the basic concepts of how to quantitatively evaluate stocks and determine their value. We will discuss what tools investors use to compare stocks to each other and determine if a stock is a good investment. We will also discuss how valuation has changed over time to accommodate new corporate trends.

Week 3

Portfolio creation and diversification: Discover the principles of creating a portfolio of stocks that balance strong return with risk diversification. Understand that by diversifying stock allocation, you can strategically outperform a single strong performing stock over the long run.

Week 4

Market trends and industry changes & advanced investment tools: Learn about how the stock market is changing today and how it will affect investing in the future. Realize the opportunities that exist from rapidly shifting dynamics so that you can better position yourself to make sound and rewarding investments. We will also explore more advanced and more intense tools (options and leverage) that investors may use to increase their profit potential while managing risk.

Week 5

Investment philosophies from the greats: Study the investment philosophies from legendary investors such as Warren Buffet, Carl Icahn, and Bill Ackman to better develop your own investment principles. We will discuss how certain principles, such as compounding interest being the 8th wonder of the world can guide our investment decisions.

Week 6

Final stock analysis presentations: Students will present their stock that they have followed for the past 5 weeks highlighting the quantitative and qualitative elements discussed in earlier sessions. We will also leave time to answer any remaining questions on the assignment so each student is well prepared to submit their stock analysis for archive.
