Environmental Economics, Industrial Organization

Bio

My academic passion is studying the impact of economic activity on the environment. I am particularly interested in how industrial practices contribute to climate change and pollution, as well as the ways in which sustainable economic policies can mitigate these effects. Through my research, I aim to uncover strategies that balance economic growth with environmental stewardship, ensuring a healthier planet for future generations. As for personal interests, I love to spend time outdoors, whether it's playing tennis, running or cycling on the beach, or hiking. I've lived in Beijing, Boston, New Jersey, San Francisco, and am now based in Los Angeles for my PhD. I also love gardening and taking care of plants, and I'm vegetarian.

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Analyzing the Environmental Impact of Local Industrial Activity

As a researcher in environmental economics, I can guide students in exploring the intersection of economic activity and environmental impact. This project will focus on assessing the environmental consequences of industrial activities in a specific region, such as air and water pollution, carbon emissions, and resource depletion. Students will learn how to conduct environmental impact assessments, analyze economic data, and use geographic information systems (GIS) for mapping industrial sites and pollution sources. They will also develop skills in statistical analysis and environmental economics. The project will involve collecting data from various sources, including government databases, environmental agencies, and local industry reports. Students will conduct field visits to gather first-hand data on pollution levels and interview local stakeholders, such as industry representatives and community members. They will also review relevant literature to understand existing research on the topic. By the end of the project, students will produce a comprehensive scientific research paper detailing their findings on the environmental impact of local industrial activities. They will also create visual representations of their data, such as charts, graphs, and GIS maps, to illustrate their analysis. This project could serve as a valuable contribution to local environmental policy discussions and provide a solid foundation for further academic research or professional work in the field.
