Bio
Hi! My name is Alexandria Weaver (but I go by Ally). I earned my Ph.D. from the University of California, Irvine where I investigated the effects of brain game training and how to support our cognition as we get older. My last project worked to create a music-based game to improve hearing and cognitive abilities. I look forward to chatting about all things learning, memory, and brain plasticity. Outside of research, I love being outdoors and learning how to do new things. My most recent hobby has been learning how to roller skate.Project ideas
Creating a blog post
In this project, you will write a scientific blog post on a topic that interests you. This could range anywhere from explaining how something works (ex. how memories are formed) to answering a specific question (ex. does listening to music help you study better?). This project will give you experience with finding and reading scientific literature on a topic that you're excited about. The overall goal of this project is to communicate your topic and ideas to a general audience. This project will help you sharpen your writing and editing skills as well as literature synthesis skills.
Creating a Survey
In this project, you will create your own survey to collect data on a topic of your interest. An example topic could be examining the relationship between stress and listening to music or memory and music. This project will give you experience with one method of data collection as well as how to analyze the responses collected. The overall goal of this project is to practice formulating research questions and to become familiar with survey design.
