Bio
I’m Bailey Lang, and I'm a professional word nerd. I recently completed my PhD in rhetoric and writing studies at Bowling Green State University. My dissertation explored women’s participation in self-culture as a form of writing education during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and I completely redesigned my project around digital-only archival research due to the pandemic. I’ve also published research on online harassment and science fiction writers. Currently, I run The Writing Desk, LLC, which provides developmental editing and copyediting services for writers, and technical writing services for businesses. Outside of work, I read for fun basically all the time. Some of my favorite recent reads are Hench, The Broken Earth Trilogy, and Laziness Does Not Exist. I’m in a weekly book club and a monthly writing group with a few of my closest friends, where we get together to talk about what we’re reading and share what we’re writing. I also embroider lots of goofy things like grumpy sushi, and I’m learning how to knit and keep houseplants alive. I love to go on long, challenging hikes, and I play a lot of video games like Stardew Valley and role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons (I’m currently in 2 games with a third starting soon!).Project ideas
Making History Digital: Archival Research
Are you interested in working with historical writing? Archival research might be just the ticket! Together, we will work on developing archival research questions, accessing and using digitized archival resources (including learning how to read cursive!), conducting primary and secondary research, and creating engaging and accessible digital research presentations.
Banish Writer's Block: Creative Writing Projects
Do you have a creative writing project you want to finish? Let’s get to it! I work with writers on everything from short stories to book-length works. We’ll focus on combining writing with writing studies research. In our first sessions, we’ll identify a realistic timeline and goal for your project. As we move forward, you’ll conduct research on genre and writing habits that will support your productivity, help you build productive writing habits, and move you from draft to done.
