Are Economic Sanctions Still Effective?
Economic sanctions have been used since the First World War as a deterrent to physical force to secure peace. This project will look into past conflicts and more current conflicts to assess the effectiveness of economic sanctions. This project would entail researching the essential concepts of economic sanctions (i.e. sovereignty, international organizations, embargos, etc.) as well as finding relevant case studies in which sanctions have been used. The final result would end in a research paper analyzing one or more examples of economic sanctions and creating an educated opinion on the effectiveness of sanctions in the future. As this is a complex topic, this would be more of an advanced research paper.
