Bio
Hello all! My name is Won and I received a PhD in computer science from the University of Michigan. My research was in the intersection of security and machine learning. Previously, I attended UC Berkeley where I did undergraduate research and was a teaching assistant. I actually went into college thinking I would be pre-med and ended up bouncing between a few majors before settling in computer science so I definitely know all about being unsure and lost. I have mentored high school students with various computer science / data science / stats / ML related research projects for several years now and have loved every aspect of it! In my free time, I love traveling and all things associated with it (new sights, new food, new cultures). I picked up photography as my quarantine hobby and have been really into it.Project ideas
Application of Machine Learning
Machine learning is becoming more and more powerful and the problems that they can be used to solve are limitless. I am eager to help students try to identify a problem they strongly want to explore and help use machine learning techniques to solve them. For example, some of prior students used machine learning to help identify recyclable wastes and identify trends in hurricanes.
Use of Data Science / Stats techniques to answer interesting questions
What makes a popular song popular? What identifies fake news from real news? There are data everywhere and I am excited to help students apply stats and data science techniques to help answer questions like these and many more!
Privacy and Security
What are some ramifications of security and privacy policies? Are passwords actually useful? Students can take ideas such as these (and many more) and run with them to gain insights!
