Indigenous families and communities, Decolonial theory, children's media
Bio
I was born in Peru, but was adopted and subsequently raised in New York (USA). I completed both my BA & MA at The City College of New York in Psychology. I am currently enrolled as a PhD student at New York University, in the developmental psychology program. My work focuses on how the Quechua Runa, the ancestral people of the Andean highlands, describe themselves ethnoculturally, and how these identities inform their ideas about children's socialization, and children's early STEM learning. The overarching aim of my work is to leverage these findings to contribute valuable insights for the creation of culturally informed and responsive children's media content.Project ideas
Literature review
In this project, you will write a paper reviewing the literature on a topic of your choice. Topics could range anywhere within the fields of educational and developmental psychology with a focus on decolonial theory. Possible topics could include Indigenous/Latine families, Indigenous/Latine children's home and school based education, and Indigenous/Latine families and communities STEM beliefs and practices. This project will hone your research skills by showing you how to find, access, and critically analyze existing scientific literature and then how to write a review of that literature. You will also acquire skills in writing and editing, as well as an in-depth knowledge of your chosen research topic.
