Bio
My name is Santita, I am currently a second year medical student at Duke University School of Medicine. During my undergraduate years, I had interest in many of the STEM subjects but I could never choose, so I decided to pursue Engineering to be able to learn and apply all of them. As a result, I enjoyed Bioengineering especially and decided to take an extra year to organize myself before thinking about medical school, so I decided to pursue my masters degree. Outside of academia, I have many interests ranging from nutrition, sports (mainly volleyball, basketball and soccer), reading, traveling, history and learning new languages. Currently, I'm working on learning Spanish. Having other interests has made my life more balanced as a medical student.Project ideas
Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.
Biomechanics of Injury
The human body is a marvel. In the world of elite athletics, it is interesting to see how the body develops with respect to different sports and subsequent injury when the body attempts to perfect the same movement related to that activity. For example, why are there so many torn ACLs/MCLs/meniscuses in women soccer but more sprained ankles in volleyball? Many variables are included: terrain of play, height, muscle development, common movements, etc. We could explore together these variables and examine the biomechanics of injury and potential ways to reduce said injury.
Coding skills
Python, MatLab, Presentations, Covidence, EPIC EMR, Microsoft OfficeLanguages I know
French - Professionally proficient, Spanish - NoviceTeaching experience
I currently mentor students who are interested in going to medical school. I help them navigate the process of applying and provide insights on what Admissions committees are looking for as well as ways to reduce stress throughout the process. In the past, I have mentored volleyball players on how to succeed in the sport and what college coaches are looking for in prospective student athletes.Credentials
