Bio
I am a Resident Physician at Duke University Medical Center. As a preliminary intern in Internal Medicine, I treat patients both in the inpatient and outpatient settings. I have spent much of my medical career sharing my experiences in medicine with high school and pre-med students while helping them find their path to becoming a medical professional. I was born and raised in New York City and recently moved to Durham, NC. My hobbies include playing basketball, watching all sports especially basketball, football and tennis, and exploring new restaurants and cuisines.Project ideas
Shared decision making
Much of medicine includes making decisions on how you would treat your patient based on their goals for treatment. As physicians, we try to present them with treatment options and discuss the risks and benefits of these options. With this project students will create an infographic that includes the mechanism of a common medical condition (i.e. high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, heart failure, infection, etc...), find evidence based treatment options and consider different scenarios (i.e beliefs, cost/insurance, personal responsibilities, side effects, other existing conditions) that can affect a patient's treatment goals .
Access denied
This project will focus on the barriers to accessing quality education, health foods or healthcare. Students will try to answer questions such as: - What constitutes a food dessert? - What key factors determine the quality of a public school? - What are some of the major barriers to accessing primary care? The goal of this project is for the student to come up with measurable ways to improve access on a small scale in their respective schools and/or neighborhoods.
