Bio

My name is Mina Iskander, I am an Internal Medicine resident at the University of Miami. I took a research year between my 3rd and 4th year of medical school, and I worked in an innovations lab at an ophthalmology department. I spent this time working on systematic reviews and cross-sectional studies that connected new innovations in medicine and ophthalmology. I have also worked on research projects involving topics including Covid-19, cardiovascular health, urology and delerium I love to watch and play sports, especially soccer (Arsenal football club supporter). I enjoy working out and being outdoors. I am also particularly interested in health policy, entrepreneurship, innovations in medicine, and cardiovascular health.

Effect of blue light reflecting glasses: Do they work?

Blue light reflecting glasses have been alleged to help with eye strain from screens, help with sleep quality, and prevent dry eye. They have become extremely popular after the pandemic due to increased screen time. A review paper could illuminate what evidence exists for whether they do what they claim.

The use of virtual and augmented reality in Medicine

Virtual and augmented reality are becoming more widely adopted technologies. They are currently beginning to be used in different medical subspecialties. This would be a fascinating review paper.

Health literacy and COVID-19

Due to widespread information and misinformation, the importance of 'health literacy' has been emphasized during the COVID-19 pandemic. This would be an interesting topic to research.

Teaching experience

After I completed my first year of medical school, I became a student mentor for first year students. I helped them create study schedules, get acclimated to classes and how to study in graduate school, and helped them with course work that they had difficulties with
