- Research Program Mentor
MD candidate at New York University
Expertise
I love helping students conduct medical research. My passions are cardiology and gastroenterology, and I have helped students perform research across many fields!
Bio
I am from Houston, Texas and attended UT Austin before heading to New York University for medical school. I am currently in my fourth year with plans to go into cardiology. I have always loved teaching and helping students achieve their full potential. I believe the most important step of that process is building a strong mentor-mentee relationship - learning what students are passionate about and finding interesting projects to help them achieve their goals. My experience in teaching and conducting research gives me a broad range of experiences to help students with their scholarly interests. I have conducted research in many medical subjects - the intersection between cancer and heart disease, how medications affect our microbiome, and the relationship between infertility and health. After studying such a broad range of topics, I have learned how to turn high-level research questions into actionable steps.Project ideas
Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.
Prediction of Medication Adherence in Patients with Heart Disease
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States despite a variety of effective medications. This study aims to examine the current literature to see what factors are associated with patients' ability to take their medications and help identify populations may benefit from additional resources.
Teaching experience
I love tutoring and have tutored extensively throughout my life. In high school, I worked in an after-school program tutoring science and math to students at risk of failing. In college, I volunteered as a reading tutor in an underserved area of Austin for elementary students. I also privately tutored engineering and business students, primarily in calculus. In medical school, I have worked as a bedside instructor for younger students, teaching them to conduct a history and physical examination. I enjoy working with students of all skill levels and figuring out the best way to communicate difficult concepts.Credentials
