Bio

Hi! I am currently a postdoctoral researcher at Johns Hopkins University. I studied Bioengineering at University of Maryland, College Park for my undergraduate and received a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University. One of my favorite undergraduate engineering projects was designing an RF-based tracking device to monitor endotracheal tube positioning and prevent distal migration into the lungs during intubation. While pursuing my graduate degree, I developed a microfluidic platform to detect and quantify DNA biomarkers, particularly for rare molecule detection within blood, or liquid biopsies. I am part of a cancer research team using the microfluidic digital platform to improve diagnostics, theranostics, and mechanistic studies. In my spare time, I like to play soccer and softball and listen to music.

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Mapping therapeutic pathways

To develop treatments and medicine, first we must understand how a disease works, how the chemistry and functions of cells are altered. In this project, we will search the literature to discovery disease pathway models and therapies that target different steps along the pathway.

Coding skills

matlab, python, c++

Languages I know

Spanish but not quite fluent

Teaching experience

I have tutored the Flexus Engineering program at University of Maryland. I also ran the summer engineering camp. I also was a mentor with SABES, an afterschool engineering program for elementary school students that taught design and engineering principles then lead a semester-long project
