Bio
Hello! My name is Sophia and I was born in Portland, Oregon. I did my BA in History and Political Science at Grinnell College in Iowa. Currently, I'm a PhD Candidate in Modern European History at Yale University. I focus on the history of gender and sexuality in early twentieth century Europe, Modernist literature, and the relationship between history and queer and feminist theories. When I’m not focused on my academic work, I enjoy spending time outside, listening to music, and traveling. I look forward to working with students with open and curious minds about topics related to Modern History and beyond!Project ideas

Introduction to Historical Research
Do you have a historical question you've always been curious about? Are you curious about how to ask a historical question?This project will provide instruction and guidance about how to do historical research and develop a research paper, on a topic of your choosing.
How to Read Theory
Is there a theoretical work that you've always wanted to read but have never had the opportunity to? This project will give you that chance! Together, we will work through a text of your choosing and discuss how to talk about and how to read theory.

I was a research assistant for Grinnell College's Liberal Arts in Prison Program, where I taught the foundations of historical research and worked one-on-one as a mentor for student projects. I also served as an Americorps member and ran a summer school program focused on improving literacy skills for children below reading level in Grinnell, IA.Credentials
