Bio
Hello! My name is Jude, and I am an MD/PhD student at Duke University. I have completed 2 years of medical school and am currently in my 1st year of PhD training. I'm really interested in the intersection of immunology and cancer biology, particularly in the emerging field of cancer immunotherapy. My PhD project involves genomic technologies, such as CRISPR-Cas9 screening, to leverage the innate immune system for therapeutic gain in cancer. I was fortunate to discover research early on in my career as an undergraduate student. After months of failing in the lab, I came across an interesting discovery that took me many more months to fully uncover. This moment and many others were super exciting and made me feel like I was on the cutting-edge of science! As a Polygence mentor, my goal is to provide you with the support to ask your own research questions and pursue these questions to the best of your ability. In doing so, I hope you discover the joy of science.Project ideas
Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.
Harnessing the Immune System to Fight Cancer
Recent advancements in cancer treatments include cancer immunotherapy. This therapy looks at ways to activate the immune system to fight cancer. Breakthroughs in this area have led to long-lasting responses in cancer patients. However, these responses are only seen in a subset of patients. There is much to learn and understand in this emerging and growing field!

TamilTeaching experience
I have 2 years of experience leading supplemental instruction (SI) sessions for Calculus II and Organic Chemistry. In these sessions, I reviewed lectures for the class as well as study strategies to improve studying. I have also had the opportunity to mentor undergraduate students in my research lab.Credentials
