Bio

Hi! My name is Kiara and I am currently a Ph.D. student studying developmental psychology! Broadly I am interested in how community aspects such as violence and lack of social support affect individuals' development of internalizing and externalizing behaviors. Outside of school, I am into traveling and trying new foods. My favorite cuisines are Italian and Mexican. I also really enjoy reading, my favorite author at the moment is Colleen Hoover. One cool fact about myself is I have been skydiving!

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Community Communication: The Association between Substance Use and Depression

This project would include examining the literature on how substance use and depression are related within a certain population. Once the articles are collected, we would review what the literature states and create a dissemination. The dissemination would be something that can be easily communicated to the greater community such as a website, graphic, or poster.

Teaching experience

Previously I worked in a Montessori school, teaching young students basic life skills. I have also had teaching experience working as a mental health technician to help individuals rehabilitate back into life.
