PhD candidate at Boston University

Expertise

Neurodegenerative disease, neuropathology, neurobiology, neuroanatomy

Bio

My name is Morgane (more-gihn) and I am a passionate scientist with a love for the brain! I am currently pursuing my doctorate degree at Boston University in Anatomy and Neurobiology and I completed my Bachelor's degree at McGill University in Human Physiology. I have lots of experience with rodent studies and shifted gears upon entering my program to work with human brain tissue. My research aims to understand the pathobiology of chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a neurodegenerative disease associated with exposure to repetitive head impacts. One of my goals as a scientist is to be a teacher that sparks a student's passion in the same way that my mentors did for me. Teaching is one of my favorite parts of learning and I hope to be able to get other students as excited about science as I am. Outside of the lab I am an avid runner, hiker, and all things outdoors. A good day is one that I can spend mostly outside!

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

The role of hyperphosphorylated tau deposition across brain cell types

Create a short research paper and poster that details the types of cells in which we see deposition of pTau across various neurodegenerative diseases, focusing not only on neuronal pTau, but also glial (astrocytic, oligodendroglial) pTau. Speculate as to the reasons why these cells may take up and retain this aggregate, and speculate as to the results of pTau buildup in these cells.

Teaching experience

I have informally taught undergrads lab skills in various settings. I have also more formally taught undergrads in histology lab and biology lab. My program emphasizes teaching and I also TA Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology and Medical Neuroscience.
