Bio

Hi! I’m am currently a graduate student working on my Doctor of Physical Therapy at Emory University. I’m a bit of an anatomy nerd and I’m fascinated with movement, especially optimizing ones physical ability to reach their highest potential. I’m more than just a scientist though, I am also a dancer, having earned my BFA in Ballet. I love to connect both my passions and explore how they inform each other and expand my base of knowledge. I’m also a big believer in interdisciplinary work and the value it can add to patient centered care. My research has focused on the use of dance therapy with oncology patients and improving cancer related fatigue and quality of life for those with terminal illness. Outside of school I spend my time hiking, exploring new places and reading. I have always enjoyed teaching and mentoring and I am looking forward to being able to work with you here at Polygence!

Project ideas

Project ideas are meant to help inspire student thinking about their own project. Students are in the driver seat of their research and are free to use any or none of the ideas shared by their mentors.

Just keep Moving

Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death globally. Although there are many risk factors for cardiovascular disease the majority of them are modifiable. In this project you would explore the effect of exercise programs in reducing cardiovascular disease risk and prolonging life. Using current research you would focus on creating an optimal exercise program and presenting it in your form of choice.

Audition Solo

The student will choreograph a solo for themselves to use at auditions, focusing on analyzing their strengths and expressing what dance means to them. I will help guide them through this process providing feedback on their choreography and challenging them to explore movement in new ways including elements of space, time, and shape.

Teaching experience

My teaching experience started in undergrad as a tutor for Anatomy and Physiology as well as Biology, working to help students prepare for the condensed format of the classes in the June and July sessions. From there, I worked as a substitute teacher for Fort Worth Academy of Fine arts, working in multiple subject areas including Math, Science, English, Dance and Theatre. I also have experience teaching dance to middle and high school students with a focus on Ballet and Jazz.
